Alberta-born, Nashville-based country singer-songwriter and military veteran Dallas Alexander recently released his highly-anticipated new single “Meet You At The Riverbank” on November 12th. Produced by Dallas, award-winning country artist Gord Bamford and Johnny Gasparic (MCC Recording Studio), this song brings together the rustic charm of the banjo, fiddle, and mandolin to create a spirited, foot-stomping melody that captures the heart of country and bluegrass traditions.

Dallas Alexander hails from a rough-and-tumble backwoods upbringing, having been raised on a Fishing Lake Métis Settlement in Northern Alberta. After recently retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces Special Operations (JTF2) following an impressive 17 year career, Dallas is now focused on carving his way in the country music industry by blending his Métis roots with stories from his military career.

Inspired by country legends such as Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Jamey Johnson, Dallas also finds strong influence in modern artists like Tyler Childers, Cody Jinks and the Turnpike Troubadours. He has graced the stage at notable festivals such as the Cavendish Beach Music Festival and previously opened for award-winning Canadian country music star, Gord Bamford on the Eastern leg of his Canadian Dirt Tour.

Now making waves in Nashville, Dallas has had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the industry’s top talent for his upcoming debut studio album including Buddy Owens, Justin Lantz, Blue Foley and Trick Savage. With a commitment to complete creative control, his distinct writing and vocal style set him apart and his passion for music drives him forward, as he continues to hone his craft and share his journey through song.

I had the opportunity to chat with Dallas about his latest single, his journey in the music industry and what’s next.

Kat: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your latest single “Meet You At The Riverbank”?

Dallas: The idea for this song hit me one late night, driving home from a gig around 2 AM. As I was cruising down the highway, I remember thinking, Man, I’m so glad I don’t have to go to church tomorrow morning. That thought stuck with me, so I brought it to a writing session in Nashville with Blue Foley and Trick Savage. We ended up crafting something with a more stripped-down, acoustic vibe. The lyrics carry the message that God isn’t just in the church on Sunday ;)

Kat: What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from your music?

Dallas: I make music that I love – I write about things that inspire me and connect with me on a deeper level. The sound, the stories, it’s all about what feels right to me. I really enjoy the storytelling side of it, and honestly, it’s incredible to see how many people it resonates with. If I can inspire someone, make them feel good, or even just be part of their parties, that’s so cool to me.

Kat: Can you share a bit about your journey into the music industry? What were some key turning points?

Dallas: In the fall of 2019, right as I was wrapping up my military career, I dove headfirst into this musical journey. It just felt like the right time to explore a passion I’d always had, and to channel everything I’d learned and experienced into something raw and real—something that was all my own. After losing my brother, music became my therapy, my way of coping, and it quickly turned into an obsession. There have been so many turning points along the way—my first open mic, linking up with Gord Bamford, my first trip to Nashville, and of course, the touring we’ve been doing nonstop. It feels like doors keep opening for us, and every day seems to get better. I’m seeing signs everywhere—serendipitous moments that just tell me I’m on the right track.

Kat: We know you recently headlined a show at the iconic Cook County Saloon. Do you have any rituals or routines when you’re in the studio or preparing for a performance?

Dallas: Aside from the usual sound check and warm-ups, we always take a shot of (our fave) Siempre Tequila with the band before we hit the stage. It’s become a ritual that helps get the energy right and gets us in the zone for the show.

Kat: What’s your favourite song to perform live and why?

Dallas: Can’t Blame My Bloodline, it’s high energy and I love the long fiddle solo!

Kat: As an artist coming from another career, what advice would you give to aspiring musicians looking to break into the industry?

Dallas: Make the music you love, and then get obsessed with it. Dive in deep, let it consume you. And whatever you do, don’t sleep… haha. Keep pushing.

Kat: Dallas, do you have any exciting plans or projects coming up in 2025?

Dallas: Hell yeah! I’m moving the fam to Nashville! and then it’s all about touring, touring, touring! Get ready to see us on the road – and hey, bring your mama to a show near you! It’s gonna be a good time.
