Emerging country artist Dayna Reid recently released her brand new single “The Way You Lie”. The first single from her upcoming collection of new music.

With powerhouse vocals, one-of-a-kind lyrics and a tenacious attitude, Dayna Reid is at the forefront of emerging artists to watch. Hailing from the rural town of Elmvale, ON, Dayna has been turning heads across the country since signing to Open Road Recordings & RGK Entertainment Group. Her fresh sound has led to her first Top 40 radio single with “She’s Me,” which also landed her the titles of iHeartRadio’s Future Star, and Stingray Radio’s Trending Track.

Dayna discovered her voice at a young age, and grew up surrounded by small town stories. She began to put those stories into songs after picking up the guitar and working tirelessly to perfect her craft and pursue a career in music. In the summer of 2019, Dayna was introduced to multi-CCMA award winning artist Beverley Mahood, who quickly became a mentor and one of her closest songwriting partners. Dayna worked tirelessly on writing her story and creating the music that resonated with her most, resulting in her debut EP Back To The Trailer.

I had the opportunity to chat with Dayna about her musical journey so far, her new single, and what’s next.

Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your new single “The Way You Lie”?

Dayna: Almost everyone knows what it feels like to be lied to. This song is about slamming the door on a relationship that’s been full of lies and you’ve had enough… you don’t care about what’s happening behind that door anymore because you saw this coming from a million miles away. So, you just hope that the next girl likes the way he lies.

Kat: What do you hope fans take from the track?

Dayna: The Way You Lie talks about being able to already see what’s coming from this guy and his lies and deciding you’re not going to play his games anymore. I hope that whoever is listening and relates to this song feels empowered to move on from a relationship that has turned sour and to leave the lies in the past. I love singing songs that I know are going to encourage other women!

Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?

Dayna: When it comes to my creative process, I think the most difficult part is finding a balance between all my songs that includes sticking to my roots with more traditional aspects of country music, and a fresh sound… as well as having songs that speak lyrically true to myself and everyone listening.

Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?

Dayna: I’m fairly new to the music scene so the whole experience has been full of firsts. The biggest highlight of my career so far was releasing my first single “She’s Me” in January 2023. After releasing this single I was chosen to be both iHeart radio’s future star as well as Stingrays trending track! Every artist dreams of hearing their song on the radio, so the first time I heard She’s Me playing is a moment I’ll never forget. I’m very thankful for the support right out of the gate and this really helped kick off the start of my career.

I was also given the opportunity to record a song with Tim Hicks for his Campfire Troubadour album called “Carry you home”! I’ve always been a fan of Tim’s music, so I was extremely excited to be able to be a part of that project!

This year has opened a lot of doors for me including also being chosen as one of the eight finalists for SiriusXM’s Top of the Country competition, this gave me many amazing opportunities and great experience! I’ve learned the reason I love music so much is it always pushes you to aspire for more from yourself and it has really helped guide me towards the path I want to take.

Kat: What else can fans expect from you for the balance of 2023?

Dayna: Over the next few months, I will be releasing more songs from my album! My first EP “Back to the Trailer” and singles “She’s Me” and “The Way You Lie” were a great introduction but I am very excited to share more new tunes! Also, there’s some exciting live performance opportunities coming very soon!
