The next big thing in the auto industry is electric vehicles (EVs). These battery-powered machines are more environmentally friendly than gas-powered cars — and the new models look sleek on the streets.

The next few years will bring some terrific EVs onto the market. A fan favourite is returning, and some popular models are going electric with no turning back. These five vehicles are the coolest set for release this decade.

1. Chevrolet Silverado EV

The next generation of EVs includes more than just sedans. You’ll see battery-operated trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado EV. The Silverado has been around since 1999, but it’s going electric following Chevy’s plans for EVs. The automaker says it will transition entirely to electric by 2035, including its most popular models like the Camaro and the Corvette.

The Silverado EV will enter production this year and be ready for the 2024 season of vehicles. Some question the battery power of an electric truck, but this machine has a 400-mile driving range with up to 664 horsepower for its fully loaded model. Being an EV doesn’t compromise the towing capacity either. The Silverado EV starts at an 8,000-pound capacity, and Chevy will unveil a package able to haul 20,000 pounds.

2. Dodge Charger Daytona SRT

Dodge, along with Chevrolet, is under the Fiat Chrysler umbrella. Its vehicles are also rapidly transitioning toward EVs, starting with the Charger. Dodge has produced the Charger since 1966, so its conversion to electric is significant. The Charger, as you know it, is going away after nearly 60 years, but the electric version looks sporty.

The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT will start production in 2024 and promises to be a powerful machine. Does an 800-volt engine sound enough for you? The 800-volt package also comes with 590 horsepower under the hood. The base trim features a solid 400-volt engine with 455 horsepower. The muscle car shows tremendous strength and will compare nicely with the Hellcat.

3. DeLorean Alpha5

“Wait a minute, Doc. Are you telling me you built a time machine out of a DeLorean?” That line is from the famous film “Back to the Future.” The DeLorean was a real car with only one model in three years until the company shut down in 1982. Now, it’s making a comeback.

The DeLorean Alpha5 comes from a partnership with the DeLorean Motor Company and Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A. The former has no connection to the original DeLorean Motor Company. Still, it has provided parts and repairs for original vehicle owners. You can see the DeLorean Alpha5 in the upcoming “Fast X” movie, along with the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT.

The Alpha5 has excellent acceleration, going from 0 to 60mph in just under 3 seconds. Do you like to drive fast? You can take it for a spin and reach a top speed of 155mph. Plus, the Alpha5 has a 300-mile range and all-wheel drive.

4. Jeep Recon

For years, Jeep’s vehicles have been known for being gas guzzlers. They’re heavy machines that burn gas faster because their design is optimal for off-roading. But you can put the gas concerns away with the next generation of Jeep Wranglers.

Jeep has announced plans for its Recon model, a fully electric SUV. It’s a 4×4 that you’ll see in production in 2023 and on the streets by 2024. If you’re looking for the popular doorless vehicle, Jeep has plans for an EV with the Magneto model. Expect to see it by 2025, as Jeep will unveil numerous EV models in the next few years.

5. Maserati Grecale Folgore

Maserati is one of the most popular sports car brands in the world. The Italian automaker has been in business since 1914, and its luxury vehicles have been a favourite among car enthusiasts. We’ve already seen the Maserati go electric with the Alfieri, and it’s continuing the trend with the Grecale Folgore.

The Grecale Folgore is a crossover directly inspired by its Grecale SUV predecessor. This EV has power with nearly 600 pound-feet of torque and a 300-mile driving range. Maserati isn’t the only sports car going electric. Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren and more are switching to EVs and breaking tradition with their classic cars.

A New Era in Car Manufacturing

The future is now with EVs. Looking back 10 or 15 years ago, people laughed at cars like the Toyota Prius. However, in the 2020s, automakers across the board are gravitating toward EVs. They’re better for the environment and maintain incredible power with sleek designs. These five EVs are the ones to watch in the next couple of years.
