Canadian country artist Dylan Burk recently released his first single “Looking Like That” off his upcoming fall EP release, “Longer“. The tune was written by country industry legend Patrick Jason Matthews (Luke Bryan, Trace Adkins, Julie Roberts), and features Burk’s captivating smoky, yet smooth vocals.
Recorded at Studio A in Kitchener, Ontario, the tune is about seeing an ex partner having moved on when the other still hasn’t. We had the opportunity to catch up with the rising country artist to chat musical inspiration, what’s on his playlist, and what’s next.
Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your new single “Looking Like That”?
Dylan: I was blessed to be able to record a song that was written by some of Nashville’s best songwriters. One of them being Patrick Jason Matthews, who has wrote hits for artists such as Luke Bryan, Chris Young, Billy Currington and more. The inspiration behind the song started out as a great hook that become “Looking Like That” by Jason Matthews.
Kat: Do you have any role models or music artists who have inspired or influenced you and/or your sound? If so who?
Dylan: Being born in Tennessee I grew up listening to country music. From Randy Travis, and Merle Haggard to today’s artists like Darius Rucker and Chase Rice. They have been big inspirations for me in this industry. I’m a big fan of live music especially seeing my favourite artists and learning from their stage presence.
Kat: What’s on your playlist?
Dylan: Funny thing about my playlist is I tend to listen to the songs that are not necessarily the most known songs. Like Chase Rice/Country In Ya and Justin Moore/ Middle Class Money. I also have some Jerry Lee Lewis and Eric Clapton mixed in. My playlist has songs from the 50’s all the up to today’s music.
Kat: Do you have any advice for other emerging artists?
Dylan: Just be cautious of who you surround yourself with in this industry. It took me years of running though the fire to learn this valuable lesson. Stay true to yourself and the style of music that makes you stand out. Not everybody has your best interest at heart.

Kat: What’s next?
Dylan: I’m excited that after many months of hard dedication and late nights, I will be releasing my next single “How A Heart Works” on July 5th. My EP release “Longer” will be released in September. Along with many great shows booked for this summer.
I know this guy and Dylan is as sincere as the day is long. Hard working, kind and dedicated to his family and friends. He has worked hard for this and I am happy that it is turning out for him.
