Cameron Hawthorn defies genres as an American singer-songwriter. His stunning vocals and songwriting blends elements of Americana, Country, Folk, and Pop/Rock to put him in a league of his own. Hailing from a small town in Kansas, he attributes his years of growing up in the Midwest to the authentic and honest storytelling found in his music.
Influenced by the likes of Johnny Cash, James Taylor and Fleetwood Mac, Hawthorn aims to make music with the same raw narrative – pure and real, classy and classic. With the hope that his upcoming releases will inspire people from all backgrounds to be true to themselves, Cameron Hawthorn is ready for the world to see the next chapter of his musical journey.

We had the opportunity to catch up with Cameron and talk musical style, songwriting and his latest single ‘Dancing In The Living Room’
Kat: Can you talk about your musical style and influences?
Cameron: My musical style is classic country inspired with a pop/rock twist. I’ve been influenced by a lot of legendary singer-songwriters and classic country artists like Elvis, Johnny Cash, the Everly Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, and James Taylor, to name a few. I’m also a big fan of pop music and current country music.
Kat: You recently released a music video for ‘Dancing In The Living Room’, can you talk about the inspiration behind it?
Cameron: I remember always thinking how special it was to dance freely with my boyfriend in the living room of our apartment – being gay, it’s not as easy to dance as a couple in public together as it is for a straight couple. I wanted to express how special that moment is for a couple, when it’s just the two of you in the privacy of your own four walls.
Kat: Can you talk about your songwriting process?
Cameron: It’s different every time for me. Sometimes it starts with a lyrical idea or concept. Sometimes it starts with a melody or something I’m playing around with on the piano or guitar. As soon as I get rolling with an idea, I obsess about it until it’s finished. I’ll be thinking about it in the shower, while driving, laying in bed before I go to sleep at night.
Kat: Who would the like to do a collaboration with?
Cameron: Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga…

Kat: What’s on your playlist?
Cameron: A wide range of music as far as genres and styles. Depends on the mood I’m in. Like I mentioned, I’m listening to a lot of oldies lately (classic country and iconic songwriters). But I also love more current country and pop. Songs that have been on repeat lately: “Fire and Rain” – James Taylor, “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” – Shania Twain, “Don’t Kill My Vibe” – Sigrid, “Bye Bye Love” – The Everly Brothers
Kat: What’s next?
Cameron: New music coming very soon! Definitely some shows as well. Stay tuned :)
