Veronika Slowikowska was born and raised in Barrie, Canada. From the young age of three, Veronika has had her sights on performing. Her passion for acting began when her parents enrolled her in theatre classes, using the platform as an outlet to overcome her shyness. Veronika would go on to attend the Randolph College for the Performing Arts as well as Second City Conservatory where she trained in improv and was nominated for the Tim Sims Encouragement Fund, an award that recognizes and supports promising comedic performers in the early stages of their careers.
Since graduating in 2015, Veronika has amassed a number of credits under her name including Degrassi: Next Class (Netflix), See No Evil (Discovery ID) and the short film Viable. Veronika can be seen recurring in the highly anticipated comedy horror television series, What We Do In The Shadows based on the 2014 film of the same name written by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. Currently, Veronika is part of Bad Dog Theatre’s Featured Players. The theatre company specializes in the art of unscripted comedy and improvised performance and
provides improv training for thousands of people of all ages and experience.

We had the opportunity to catch up with Veronika and discuss ‘What We Do In The Shadows’, comedy and the role she’d love to play.
Kat: Can you tell us a little bit about the new show you’re in, ‘What We Do In The Shadows’?
Veronika: It’s a spin-off of the 2014 movie What We Do In The Shadows. A hilarious mockumentary about vampires living in the modern world.
Kat: Can you talk about your character Shanice, the nerdy and awkward roommate of Jenna? Do you have any similarities? Have you learned anything from your character?
Veronika: Shanice and I have a lot of similarities. We both wear glasses and are total geeks. I learned a bit about LARPing! Very cool.
Kat: I see you performed at the 2019 Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival alongside your troupe My Chemical Bromance at the Comedy Bar. Can you speak a little about your performance, and what comedy means to you?
Veronika: My two best friends and I play three teenage boy drama nerds who love the theatre and improv. We actually just got into Montreal Sketchfest! So we’ll be performing May 10th at 10:00pm. Making people laugh is the best job!
Kat: Is there a role or character that you would love to have the opportunity to play?
Veronika: Wow! I just saw Beach Bum, written and directed by Harmony Korine starring Matthew McConaughey. I would love to play one of Korine’s wild characters!
Kat: Do you have any advice for others who are looking to act or work in the entertainment industry?
Veronika: Be nice! Work hard and make your own opportunities! There’s room for everyone.
