Canadian singer-songwriter Cassie Dasilva, is entering an exciting new chapter with her latest single, “Never Saw Me Naked.” Released October 23rd, the hook-driven pop track turns an awkward run-in with an ex back in her hometown into an honest, relatable reflection on unresolved feelings, uncomfortable small talk, and pretending someone who once meant everything is now a stranger.
With over 7 million career streams and a viral breakout single, “Unsolicited Contact,” Cassie has built a reputation for her sharp lyricism, catchy melodies, and unmistakable vocals. From her debut EP, Enough, to singles like “We Might Break Up” and “I Don’t Trust Anyone Anymore,” she’s continued to explore the messy, vulnerable sides of relationships through both her music and visuals.
Now, as she returns to her singer-songwriter roots, following her selection for the inaugural SOCAN Foundation x TuneCore Nashville Residency in 2025, Cassie is embracing a new creative chapter.

I had the opportunity to chat with Cassie about the story behind “Never Saw Me Naked,” finding inspiration in uncomfortable real-life moments, and what’s next for her.
Kat: Can you share with us a bit about yourself and your musical journey so far?
Cassie: I’m a singer-songwriter from Orillia, Ontario. I love lyrics– analyzing them, writing them, telling stories, and hearing stories. I grew up studying lyrics on the insides of CD booklets on the living room floor and writing poems in my fuzzy pink diary. I started on the piano, discovered singing, and eventually taught myself to play the guitar. Somewhere in there, I started putting my poems to music and I was hooked. I started in folk music– just me and my guitar, and for a while I lived in Vancouver, BC where I busked on the street corners and played shows anywhere I could. Eventually, I moved back to Ontario and started making and releasing pop music. Over the last several years, I’ve released two EPs, written across Canada and in Nashville and Los Angeles, and spent time writing songs for many other artists, too! More recently, I’ve planted roots back in my hometown of Orillia, and I think my music has naturally followed. I’ve found myself circling back to my singer-songwriter beginnings and to what made me fall in love with music in the first place and I’m so excited to be sharing that music now!
Kat: Can you share the inspiration behind your new single, “Never Saw Me Naked”?
Cassie: I was inspired to write “Never Saw Me Naked” after the very small-town experience of going to my hometown’s local Canada Day fair and running into an old on-again-off-again situationship from high school. He started making small talk (which isn’t uncommon when you’re from a small town) but the whole interaction had me kind of spinning out. I couldn’t reconcile the fact that he was acting completely normal when all of these old feelings and memories were bubbling back up. I remember thinking, why are you talking to me as though you’ve never seen me unclothed? As though it all never happened? I knew I had to write about it. This song looks back at the relationship from a place of being healed and having moved on, but still holding space for the betrayal of it all. The guy in the song really did a number on my heart, and this song is me writing from a place of growth, but also with sadness for the girl that it happened to deep down. It’s almost like it’s happening all over again with the way that he’s pretending it never did.
Kat: What do you think “Never Saw Me Naked” says about the way we process old relationships and unresolved feelings as we get older?
Cassie: I think that either I’m a weirdo and I hold on to feelings way longer than I should, or maybe, more than likely, most people are pretending that they’ve moved on from things that they haven’t.
Is it healthy to move on? Obviously. But shoving feelings down when they resurface is such a strange and guarded thing to do. I think there’s power in being vulnerable about it and admitting that something can still affect you without meaning that you want it back.
This song just highlights the absurdity of pretending that things never happened just because time has passed. Sure, time heals… but you still saw me naked so…?
Kat: What was the creative process like for this single? Any unique challenges or memorable moments you can share with us?
Cassie: This song came pretty easily in one of my first sessions with my producers and co- writers, Shaya and John. I was telling them the story and the craziness of it all, and the lyrics just flowed. Shaya instantly understood the assignment with the track. As soon as he started playing the guitar, he matched that nostalgic, longing feeling that really emphasizes the concept. I love how it feels reminiscent of the simplicity of 90s-’00s singer-songwriter music, but new at the same time.
Because the song came so easily that first day, it was tough not to grow attached to the original vocal and instrumentation. There was something about the freshness of it and the excitement in the room… the unsteadiness of not knowing the lyrics quite yet when I tracked them… the sound of us talking in the room as Shaya tracked the initial guitars. It was hard to find the balance between what to redo and what to keep so we didn’t lose that initial magic. We actually ended up keeping a lot from that first day, and I think it really suits the feeling of the song.
Kat: What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from your music?
Cassie: All I really want is to give people that same feeling I get when I listen to a song that feels like it’s talking about me. I want to create a world that the listener can get lost in for just a few minutes– a guilt free space to feel whatever they need to feel when they hear it, and to feel a little less alone in it all.
Kat: What has been the most rewarding experience of your music career so far?
Cassie: The most rewarding experience of my music career so far has been collaborating with so many incredible people. I love sitting in a room with complete strangers and telling each other things that maybe even our closest friends don’t know. There’s a freedom to it all–to saying and writing what you feel without hesitation because the people in the room let you feel safe enough to do so. I think that’s the high I’m always going to keep chasing when it gets tough or feels impossible. Because at the end of the day, that’s the most important part of it all to me.
Kat: What else can fans expect from you for the remainder of this year?
Cassie: The coming year is going to be really exciting for me! I haven’t released music since 2024, and I’m ready to dive back in with some new music that means a whole lot to me. I can’t wait to share it with everyone!
