Rising Québec country artist Justin Legacy returns with his powerful new single, “Blame It On You,” out now via Balistique Musique / The Orchard. Serving as the first release from his forthcoming EP, the track introduces Justin’s most emotionally raw and sonically ambitious chapter to date.

Produced by acclaimed Canadian producer Ron Lopata (Jessica Sevier, Jully Black, Matt Dusk, Lindy Ortega), “Blame It On You” follows a man wrestling with his inner demons while trapped in a toxic relationship. Blending themes of heartbreak, guilt, faith, and redemption, the song captures the weight of emotional scars and the tendency to blame someone else for the person we’ve become. Driven by gritty guitars, blues-infused swagger, and modern country storytelling, the single showcases Justin’s honest songwriting and powerful vocals while setting the tone for his next chapter.

Since emerging as a finalist on Season 7 of La Voix in 2019, Justin has become one of Québec’s fastest-rising country artists. Signed to Balistique Musique in 2022, he has earned nominations for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Album of the Year at the Gala Country du Québec, been named New Country Artist of the Month by WKND 99.5, and has headlined major festivals including FestiventFestival Western de Saint-Tite and 24h Mont-Tremblant. In recent news, Justin features on Souldia’s new single, “Le vent dans le dos.”

I had the opportunity to chat with Justin about his new single, his evolution as an artist and what’s next.

Kat: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your musical journey so far?

Justin: I’m a singer-songwriter from Québec, and I’ve been singing since I was 12. I started writing my own music and eventually got the opportunity to be on The Voice in 2019. Since then, I’ve been performing across Québec, playing some great festivals and working on my own music. It’s been a long journey, but I’m really proud of how far I’ve come and excited for what’s next.

Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your new single, “Blame It On You”?

Justin: “Blame It On You” is about a relationship where you keep coming back to each other, even when you know it’s probably not a good idea. It’s about that back-and-forth feeling and being stuck in that cycle.

Kat: What was the creative process like for this single? Any unique challenges or memorable moments you can share with us?

Justin: The creative process was pretty natural. I wrote the song with Joffrey Charles, and we just had a really good vibe from the beginning. We wanted to keep it fun, catchy and a little bit rock. One of the best parts was seeing the song come together in the studio and hearing the final version for the first time.

Kat: You’ve described this as the beginning of a new chapter for you. How do you feel you’ve evolved as an artist since your time on La Voix in 2019?

Justin: I think I’ve grown a lot since La Voix. I’ve learned more about who I am as an artist, especially with my writing and my sound. I’m more confident now and I feel like I have a better idea of where I want to go with my music.

Kat: What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from your music?

Justin: I just want people to enjoy my music and connect with it. Whether it makes them feel something, sing along, or have a good time, that’s what matters to me.

Kat: What has been the most rewarding experience of your music career so far?

Justin: Probably getting to perform my music in front of big crowds and seeing people sing along. That feeling never gets old, and it’s one of the main reasons I love doing this.

Kat: What else can fans expect from you this year?

Justin: Fans can expect a lot of new music this year. I have more songs coming, and I’m excited to keep sharing new music and playing more shows.
