Country-pop artist Sykamore continues to showcase her distinct storytelling voice with the release of her latest single, “He’s Mine.” The track intertwines heartfelt lyricism with rich, contemporary country-pop production, delivering an intimate narrative of love, longing, and self-assurance.

I had the opportunity to chat with Sykamore about her latest single, what she hope fans connect with and what’s next.
Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your latest “He’s Mine”?
Sykamore: I attended a wedding a few years ago, and being there made me think about the mother/son dance moment that happens at so many weddings, and how there isn’t really a classic song that gets played for that. So I thought I would try to write something mothers would want to dance to with their sons when they get married.
Kat: What do you hope fans take from the track?
Sykamore: I hope the song helps people gain some perspective about the way a parent/child relationship changes over time, and how it’s a very special bond for so many people even though it looks different as the years go by.
Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?
Sykamore: The part I like the least is the very beginning, when you have a blank canvas staring at you. I find that is where I easily get overwhelmed, because you have to commit to one direction, and you worry that maybe you’re not picking the BEST direction. But once that first splash of paint hits the paper, I find it gets easier because it informs the next step.
Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?
Sykamore: I’ve met some of my heroes along the way, and that has been a wonderful experience. I got to write with Liz Rose, who is one of my all-time favourite writers. And we wrote a song that I’m really proud of, which is the cherry on top. I am also happy to say I’m friends with Rhett Akins, who is another heavy hitter in the songwriting world. He’s been a mentor and a champion of mine for years. Nashville is very good about investing in the next generation of writers, so I’ve been fortunate to be part of that.
Kat: Your debut album, Pinto, has accumulated over 10 million streams. How was that experience?
Sykamore: I’m very pleased Pinto got the recognition that it did, because it’s a record I was really inspired to write. It’s the first batch of songs I wrote when I moved to Nashville, so I was collaborating with amazing writers and was very fired up to put my best foot forward as an artist. I wanted my debut to be really strong and dynamic, and I think we were able to accomplish that.
