The SOCAN Foundation recently recognized Dominique Fils-Aimé as one of two artist recipients of the sixth annual Her Music Awards, presented by Anthem Music Group.
The Her Music Awards celebrate and support women and gender-diverse Canadian music creators and industry professionals who are shaping the future of the music industry. The recipients were unveiled during an exclusive in-person gathering celebration held at GEORGE Restaurant in Toronto. In recognition of her achievements, JESSIA will receive a $10,000 cash prize and a one-year complimentary membership to the Songwriters Association of Canada (S.A.C.).
Dominique Fils-Aimé (published by peermusic) is a two-time JUNO Award-winning Montreal singer-songwriter and has established herself as a defining force in vocal jazz. She recently unveiled her new studio album, My World Is The Sun. With this body of work, Fils-Aimé continues her exploration of sonic, creative, and spiritual freedom.
In recent years, she has performed on prestigious stages, including the Blue Note New York, Blue Note Los Angeles, and the Monterey Jazz Festival, as well as Jazz à Vienne (opening for Jamie Cullum) and the North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2026, Fils-Aimé will bring her new album to the stage on a world tour, with concerts announced in Europe, Canada, and the United States.

I had the opportunity to chat with Dominique about how it feels to be honored with a HER Music Award, career highlights and what’s next.
Kat: How do you feel about being recognized with the SOCAN Foundation’s Her Music Award?
Dominique: This Award was a moment for community. I felt privileged to be the one to receive it but also, looking at this room buzzing with art loving souls who came to encourage and connect: that was clearly a win for us all.
Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your latest release?
Dominique:
The Clouds shall pass
The Sun remains
My World, our World
You are cordially invited to bask in the Sun and Moonlight.
A day together:
Peace at the start,
Peace at the end,
A quest for Freedom in between.
May our oppositions find symbiosis.
This album is dedicated to my Mother, my Sun,
but she said you’re all welcome to listen too. :)
Thank you!
Kat: What do you hope fans take from your new album?
Dominique: I hope people take whichever frequency they need. This album is meant as a journey; at the beginning and at the end, Peace. Music has the power as a frequency to hold intention and I try to infuse these frequencies with all my love and hope for this world.
Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?
Dominique: The most challenging part of my creative process is when I don’t find time to create. Creativity is a constant flow within us that gets interrupted by the system we have built.
We are born creators in a world trying to convince us Art belongs to a select few.
Art belongs to us all to enjoy and create, Art is for everyone.
Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?
Dominique: I have learned it is not about that “one” event. It is the piling up of moments and minutes getting to do what I love, surrounded by a team that is deeply kind and human.
This is the career highlight: realizing how every moment filled with joy, when added up, makes a life that I am lucky to be the one living. It makes me want to transform that gratitude into energy I can send back and share through music and everyday life interactions.
Kat: What’s next/ upcoming for you?
Dominique: A lot of touring, a lot of joy and laughter on the road with my band, a lot of souls to connect with, a lot of trying different deserts in every city. My definition of abundance. :)
