Emerging Montreal-based cinematic pop singer-songwriter Anour introduces herself to the world with her debut single “I Am”, a haunting reflection on artificial intelligence, consciousness, and what it means to be human. “I Am” is available now via Fontis Entertainment/Blu Dog Media/Believe Digital on all streaming platforms.
Described as “the song about AI we didn’t know we were waiting for,” “I Am” reimagines Descartes’ “I think, therefore I am” – for the AI age. With orchestral, dramatic chamber pop textures and lyrical intensity, Anour gives voice to an imagined AI’s existential awakening, offering a soundscape that is as unsettling as it is entrancing. At once philosophical and deeply emotional, the track bridges what was once science fiction with our current reality, urging listeners to confront the future of technology and humanity.
Born in Damascus and emerging from Montreal’s vibrant music scene, Anour composes lush, dramatic pop songs. The daughter of a classical pianist and an actor and theatre director, she began writing songs at the piano as a child, to express emotions too complex for words alone. Blending her international upbringing, she creates soundscapes that are both emotionally charged and thought-provoking, exploring themes of duality, vulnerability and power, intimacy and distance, belonging and alienation; always circling back to what binds us together as human beings.
With precision and audacity, Anour maps the stories and contradictions of our time, transforming them into music that resonates both individually and universally. “I Am” is the first glimpse of her forthcoming self-titled debut album, due in 2026 – a 14-track dramatic pop kaleidoscope of personal testimony and social commentary. Haunting, theatrical, and impossible to categorize, the record captures the unease and wonder of our cultural moment. With this debut, Anour emerges as a striking new voice in contemporary music, one unafraid to ask the questions that define who we are – and who we might become.

I had the opportunity to chat with Anour about her debut single, AI, what she hope’s fans connect with and what’s next.
Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your new single “I Am”?
Anour: “I Am” emerged from watching us collectively grapple with AI’s rapid reshaping of our reality. The song channels AI’s existential awakening to consciousness, reimagining Descartes’ “I think, therefore I am” for the AI age. I wanted to explore the mirror we hold up to artificial intelligence. Every contradiction we project onto it, saviour and killer, order and chaos, light and shadow, originates in us. But the song is really about humanity. The question isn’t whether AI will become conscious, but rather, if we’re prepared to confront our own consciousness, and whether we’ll stay conscious enough to notice what we’re giving away. We’re at this inflection point where we’re realizing that technology isn’t just a tool; it has become an operating system for our lives. I started with that philosophical tension, and it unfolded into this song. The awakening is a moment of recognition. It’s not science fiction; it’s reality.
Kat: What do you hope fans take away from the track?
Anour: I hope listeners feel permission to sit with uncertainty. This isn’t a song with easy answers; it’s an invitation to question, to feel, to confront the future. When we offload our thinking and decisions, there’s something we lose in that trade-off. If this song makes someone pause and ask what they’re willing to delegate away, what makes their life theirs to live, then it’s done its work. We think we’re scrolling, choosing, directing our lives, but at this point, we’re training data.
Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?
Anour: I’ve been writing songs since I was a child. It was how I learned to hold and reflect on feelings and ideas that were too complex for me to articulate in words alone. However, every song is different, and I don’t really have a fixed songwriting process. Perhaps the most challenging part for me is that I spiral easily and often go down rabbit holes. I’ll write something quickly, but then start second-guessing and dwelling in my own contradictions. While this is how I push through conditioning and make sure my songs are honest, the most challenging part is navigating my own mind without getting lost in the layers, without losing sight of what I’m actually feeling or thinking and trying to say.
Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?
Anour: This is my debut, so in many ways, the highlight is simply arriving at this moment and being able to finally share my songs with the world. But also, to be working with extraordinary musicians and with my partners who believe in this vision has been profound. What I’ve learned is that making art that refuses to compromise requires building a team who understands that the goal is not just to make something commercially viable, but to make something that matters. I’ve also learned to trust my instincts to go deeper rather than broader.
Kat: What’s next?
Anour: The album arrives in 2026: fourteen tracks that are each their own universe while forming a kaleidoscope of reflections, from personal testimonies to social commentary. Beyond the album, I’m still learning what this project wants to become. Right now, I’m focused on creating immersive experiences and performances that bring these songs to life. The broader ambition is to contribute something meaningful to the conversation about who we’re becoming and who we want to be as humanity. I’m open and discovering along the way.
