Emerging Canadian pop artist L. Eskaye recently released her infectious debut single “Gucci Body” on March 14th via all streaming platforms.

“Gucci Body” blends hypnotic hip-hop and pop sounds with sultry vocals, creating the perfect tune to sing and dance along to. Produced by Deep Jandu (Karan Aujla and Sidhu Moosewala) and written by L. Eskaye, the track is centered on empowerment and confidence, radiating an effortlessly cool energy. “Gucci” is used as a metaphor for good and the lyrics go beyond material status, emphasizing self-worth, hard work and knowing your value.

Growing up in the vibrant and diverse neighborhood of Malvern, L. Eskaye’s music is a powerful blend of her rich cultural heritage and the dynamic influences of her hometown. Drawing inspiration from a variety of musical icons such as Aaliyah, Monica, Britney Spears and Brandy, her artistry and vocal style combine the emotional depth of R&B with the irresistible hooks of pop. Her sound is all about crafting energetic, feel-good anthems that get you on your feet and moving.

I had the opportunity to chat with L. Eskaye about her music journey so far, her new single and more.

Kat: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your musical journey so far?

L. Eskaye: I’m L. Eskaye, a Toronto artist making music for the ladies! My sound is sexy, cool, and full of energy—made for partying, having fun, and owning your confidence. At its core, my music is about self-love, empowerment, and knowing your worth. I’ve been writing and creating for years, but now, I’m stepping into the spotlight on my own terms. “Gucci Body” is just the beginning—I want to make music that hypes you up, reminds you who of you are, and makes you move like you own it. The kind of music that makes you sing and dance like nobody’s watching.

Kat: What was the inspiration behind your new single “Gucci Body”?

L. Eskaye: “Gucci Body” is all about self-love in its purest form. ‘Gucci’ isn’t about luxury brands—it’s a mindset, a reminder to treat yourself with the highest level of love and respect. It’s about feeling your best, knowing your worth, and putting in the work to love yourself inside and out. I was inspired by how I felt listening to Sexy by Rae Sremmurd and Rude Girl by Bantu—both songs radiate confidence in different ways and made me feel unstoppable. I wanted to capture that same energy—an anthem for empowerment, self-love, and feeling yourself. “Gucci Body” is about holding your head high, and stepping into your main character moment.

Kat: What was the creative process like for this project? Any unique challenges or memorable moments you can share with us?

L. Eskaye: The process felt so natural—everything just flowed. Some songs almost write themselves, and “Gucci Body” was one of them. The lyrics actually came to me in the shower while I was brainstorming ideas about confidence, self-love, and party anthems. Out of nowhere, “only Gucci on my body” popped into my head, and the rest of the chorus followed. I repeated all 12 bars over and over until I could grab my phone and make a voice note. Later that day, I finished the verses in about an hour. I think it came so effortlessly because it reflects how I see confidence—not as something external, but something you carry within you. One of my favourite moments was playing it for my husband and seeing the look on his face—like damn, this is fire.

Kat: How do you approach songwriting? Do you start with lyrics, melody, or something else?

L. Eskaye: This is such a great question! For me it usually always starts with a melody or a collection of lyrics that pop into my head. If I really connect with the sound and vibe I’ll then flesh out what the song should be about, the story, the verses, the rest of the melodies. Those songs require more brain power and push my creativity. “Gucci Body” was entirely different, however – it came from an idea, a feeling I wanted to inspire – I had the idea in my head and before I knew it I started singing “only Gucci on My body.”

Kat: What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from your music?

L. Eskaye: I want people to feel empowered and unstoppable when they hear my music. “Gucci Body” is a reminder that your worth comes from within—you don’t need validation from anyone. Whether you’re in the gym, getting ready for a night out, or just need a confidence boost, I want this song to be that anthem that hypes you up. My music is for the ladies—it’s sexy, cool, and fun—but at its core, it’s about confidence, self-love, and owning your power. That message runs through everything I create.

Kat: What else can fans expect from you this year?

L. Eskaye: “Gucci Body” is just the beginning—I have so much more music on the way, and I can’t wait to share it. More than anything, I’m focused on connecting with my fans in a real way. I’ve spent my life searching for my kindreds—people who love music as much as I do, who feel what I feel when they listen. Building a real relationship with the ones who connect with my art means everything to me. This is a big year, and I’m just getting started.
