Canadian singer-songwriter and pop songstress, Olivia Lunny, recently released her new single “City of Angels” via Infinity & Recordings off her forthcoming album set to be released in early 2025.

This is only the latest from the vocal powerhouse. Recently, Olivia finished touring with Loreen and Ellie Goulding. Early last year, Olivia released her hit single “TIMEZONE” which soared up the charts making it her U.S. Top 40 debut and one of the sole independent records to break the Top 40 last year. Following the hype and success, Olivia released a brand-new EP Heartbreak on Repeat, a truly versatile collection of emotional yet edgy pop hits which celebrated the power of self-love and unapologetic independence.

Olivia delivers a dynamic breed of pop, instantly infectious, but full of emotional depth. After taking up guitar and writing her first song at age 12, the Winnipeg native soon ascended to national fame, earning a Western Canadian Music Award nomination for Pop Artist of the Year when she was 17 and scoring a Top 40 hit in Canada with her 2019 single “I Got You.”

The following year, she won the Young Canadian Songwriter Award from the SOCAN Foundation, inked her label deal with Universal Music Canada/Virgin Music, and released her debut EP, To The Ones I Loved. In 2021, Olivia released her debut self-titled album featuring stacked hits such as disco-pop banger “Who Could Say No” and retro-vibed fan favourite “Sad To See You Happy.”

Continuing to captivate listeners with her spellbinding vocals and incredibly resonant lyrics, Olivia has collectively amassed more than 20 million global streams and garnered media support from the likes of iHeartRadio, Billboard, Official Charts, Paper, tmrw mag, Refinery29, Nylon, Pride, The Line of Best Fit, and Parade among many others.

I had the opportunity to chat with Olivia about her new single release her musical journey, and more.

Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your latest single, “City of Angels”?

Olivia: “City of Angels” is my love letter to Los Angeles. It captures the journey over the past year since moving the city. LA can feel both vibrant and isolating and has truly pushed me to grow in ways I hadn’t imagined. This song is about finding beauty in the contrasts, and navigating the bittersweet nature of a city that both gives and takes.

Kat: What do you hope fans take away from the track? What message or emotion do you want to resonate with them?

Olivia: I hope fans can indulge in this song from a place of fun/enjoyment but also Observation. There’s truth and lyrical depth within the song and I’m so proud to have it written this with the most talented and incredible crew! (Sophie Simmons, Oscar & Keith of The Orphanage)

Kat: What do you find to be the most challenging part of your creative process, especially when working on a moody pop track like this one?

Olivia: I would have to say knowing when to apply “less is more”. For this record we actually ended up keeping the demo vocal take and exact production as the final!!

Kat: Reflecting on your career so far, what has been a major highlight for you? What lessons have you learned along the way?

Olivia: Touring Europe last year opening for Ellie Goulding and Loreen was an all time career highlight. I got to meet and form so many fans as well as play my very first arena show in Lithuania! I will forever Hold those tours in my heart!

Kat: With the release of “City of Angels,” what’s next for you? Can we expect a new album sometime soon?

Olivia: I’m BEYOND excited to share a full length project with you in the new year..! Details coming soon.. x
