I had the opportunity to chat with Genevieve about her musical journey, her new single and what’s next.

Kat: How did you find your latest single “Now We’re Talking”?

Genevieve: In August of 2023, my producer Jason Massey sent me some songs for consideration for my next single. Now We’re Talking was one of them, and I instantly fell in love with it! It was written by Mackenzie Porter, Jason Massey, Steven Lee Olsen and Lydia Vaughan. I feel very honoured to have been able to record and release this track!

Kat: What about the track connected with you?

Genevieve: This song talks about finding love in a bar and feeling instantly connected to that person, like you’ve known them your whole life. It goes on to talk about the progression of the relationship; moving in together, meeting each others families, getting engaged, married, buying a house and having kids. I met my husband at a bar in my hometown and we were head over heels for each other (and still are!), so I felt like this song was the perfect fit for me because of how much I could relate to it lyrically.

Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?

Genevieve: In most recent years, the most challenging part for me has been finding the time to be creative. In the last three years I’ve had 2 babies, so my life has been busy! I haven’t been writing as much as I’d like and I definitely miss that aspect. For me, writing is the most creative part of my career.

Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?

Genevieve: A career highlight for me was when my song “Take It On Home” hit Top 20 in Canada! What a wild ride that was! Especially because I was (and still am) an independent artist. That is virtually unheard of these days! It was pretty impressive as my “team” at that time consisted of myself, my manager (Remo Di Cesare) and my radio tracker (Rob Chubey)! To this day, I’m still so proud of that song and what it did for me!

Kat: What’s next?

Genevieve: Now that I’m releasing my new single, I’m ready to hit the ground running! Over this next year I’ll be working on an EP that will consist of some pretty personal songs! I want to show my fans a more authentic side of me and bring them into my life a little bit more. I’m in my “mom era” and I’m super proud of that and really embracing it! I want to show independent female artists that you can still be successful while having a family!
