Montreal based pop singer-songwriter Josh Alexander, was recently announced as the Grand Prize recipient of the 11th Annual Canada’s Walk of Fame RBC Emerging Musician Program.
As the Grand Prize winner, Josh will receive a cash prize of $20,000, performances at Canada’s Walk of Fame events including the Canada’s Walk of Fame 25th Anniversary Celebration in Toronto in December 2023, and private studio recording time at the renowned Metalworks Studios.
The announcement follows Josh’s highly-anticipated recent single release “Keep On Giving The Love.” This captivating musical creation is complemented by an equally impressive music video that promises an immersive visual and auditory experience not to be missed.
Hailing from Quebec City, Josh Alexander is a multi-talented, bilingual artist who has been making his mark on the music industry as a renowned songwriter, composer, and performer since his debut on the singing competition show La Voix. The young talent signed a pivotal management contract with Blu Dog Media in 2018, setting the stage for his songs “Je serai là” and “Not Alone” to feature in the globally distributed film “La Course des Tuques”. He was later named the iHeart Radio Future Star (February 2020), and in 2022 Josh’s hit single “Hurricane” from his debut EP Forevermore climbed to the 36th position on Quebec’s ADISQ radio charts, amassing over 500,000 plays.
Recently Josh also enchanted audiences once more with his latest bilingual offerings as two of his compositions “Jusqu’à toi” and “Fly Away,” were featured on the soundtrack of the upcoming film “La Légende du Papillon” / “Butterfly Tales,” alongside various artists like Patrice Michaud, Cœur de Pirate, La Zarra, Johnny Orlando and Shawn Mendes. The film was released in Canadian theatres on October 13th.
Not stopping there, Josh continues to shine brightly, placing eight collaborated works with esteemed Quebec artists such as Canada’s Got Talent 2022 winner Jeannick Fournier and King Melrose, along with contributing to popular TV animated series like L’Agent Jean/Agent Jon Le Bon and MiniJean Mini Bulles/Mini Jon Mini Maple distributed by Radio Canada. Josh is also continuing to perform at prestigious stages throughout Quebec, opening for the French singer ZAZ!

I had the opportunity to chat with Josh, about his musical journey so far, what fans can expect from his new single and more.
Kat: Can you share with us a bit about yourself and your music journey so far?
Josh: It’s been a roller coaster of feelings. This period has allowed me to grow significantly, both personally and as an artist. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, it motivated me to step out of my comfort zone, translating the ideas in my mind into songs. As a result, several of my tracks have made their way into movies and TV series, and my first EP came to life during that transformative time.
Kat: You were recently announced as the Grand Prize recipient of the 11th Annual Canada’s Walk of Fame RBC Emerging Musician Program. How does it feel to receive this award recognition?
Josh: I want to express my heartfelt gratitude – it’s genuinely an honour! The reality of achieving these lifelong dreams is beyond words. Anticipating the upcoming chapter is exciting. Creating melodies from the tunes in my mind and witnessing the resonance of my stories and music within the industry is the most rewarding experience. I’m thankful that my messages are making an impact.
Kat: Can you share the inspiration behind your recent single “Keep On Giving The Love”?
Josh: “Keep On Giving The Love” holds a special place for both my listeners and the younger version of myself. If I had come across this song during my childhood, it would have been a powerful anthem for me. Despite facing teasing for being a singer, I persisted in pursuing my passion. Overcoming the lingering sense of shame was a journey, but now, with pride in my identity and art, I aimed to create an uplifting song that radiates love to everyone. And, of course, it’s a great tune to dance to!
Kat: What do you hope fans take from the track?
Josh: I hope they feel the love and remember that embracing who we are and living our life to the fullest is the only way to go! Keep on giving the love ❤️
Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?
Josh: I’ve had many highlights up to date, but I’d have to say that being the opener for Zaz’s Organique Tour all around Quebec, was the most amazing opportunity I’ve lived up until now, as a performer.
Kat: What else can fans expect from you for the balance of 2023?
Josh: They can expect the release of a new song and keep in mind that I’m working hard on writing new music for new releases super soon!
