A couple weekends ago we headed to the Proof Bar patio at the Yorkville Royal Sonesta Hotel, for a three course floral inspired meal. Formally the InterContinental, Sonesta took over management in the fall of 2020 and rebranded.

The hotel was marketing a “floral escape” dining package that offered a floral inspired three course menu in the Sonesta’s courtyard oasis under one of two flower canopies.

For starters we ordered the Chilled Mango Passion Soup (Greek Yogurt, Mint, Lavender) and the Artisan Leaves (Edible Petals, Pomegranate, Micro Herbs, Bee Pollen, Champagne Vinaigrette).

The floral escape mains were unavailable that day, so they allowed us to substitute with any main from their regular menu. So we had the 8 Ounce Angus Striploin (Frites, Sauteed Rapini, Buttered Forest Mushrooms, Red Wine Jus) and the Atlantic Salmon Fillet (Coconut Lime Rice, Indonesian Spice Roasted Eggplant, Cucumber Tomato Salsa). For dessert we each ordered the Flower Pot (Devil’s Chocolate, Fresh Berry, Candied Petals).

We also tried a couple of their summer cocktails, the Raspberry Ginger Spritz (Gold Tequila, Spiced Syrup, Ginger Beer, Lemon Juice, Raspberries) and the Aruba (Black Rum, Malibu, Pineapple and Orange Juice). All of the food was excellent, the service was good, and I noticed they were even providing blankets for guests to cover their legs (it was chilly that afternoon). We’d definitely dine here again, it also seems like a great place for date night drinks.
