Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Josh Bogert, recently released his new single (and music video) “Dreams” this past Friday, June 17
“Dreams”, written and produced by Josh, is a fun pop track with a chorus that makes you want to get up and dance despite the yearning and nostalgia that comes through in Josh’s lyricism.
In addition to his music career, Josh is an established actor who is known for his lead role as Miles Lennox in the Disney/Netflix/Family Channel original series Backstage.
At 21-years-old, Josh is an accomplished, independent singer-songwriter, producer, engineer, and actor who has already garnered an impressive 7.7 million career streams to date and over 1 million views on YouTube.
Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Josh’s formal music education started at four years old with classical violin lessons. This quickly expanded to a love of singing and playing guitar, saxophone, drums, and piano, as well as a natural talent for DJing, songwriting, and music production. Josh has performed at some of Canada’s most iconic venues, including Toronto’s Budweiser Stage, the Scotiabank Center in Halifax, and Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.
I had the opportunity to chat with Josh about his new single, songwriting and what’s next.
Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your latest single “Dreams”? How did the song come about?
Josh: I wanted to create a song that represents the joy found within a sad story. I think this is something that has helped me get through difficult times in my life. I wanted to capture that idea in an upbeat song, especially because I think we’ve all been trying to find the happy moments in the last few years of the pandemic.
Kat: What do you hope fans take from the song?
Josh: I hope fans can relate to the song in their own way. I like it when fans can see their own stories in my songs, and I love hearing all the different takes they have when I read messages and comments on social media!
Kat: What can audiences expect from one of your live performances?
Josh: Audiences can expect a good time, I’ll say that! I like to kick off my shows with high energy and good vibes, and it’ll be a roller coaster ride throughout my set.
Kat: What has been the biggest career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?
Josh: I’ve learned so much, and I’ve been fortunate to have so many experiences in the industry at a young age, from touring arenas and signing record deals to releasing independently. I think I’ve really learned who I am, and all the experiences I’ve had have confirmed that music is what I’m meant to do.
Kat: What’s next?
Josh: I’m certain that the best is yet to come. I have so many new songs to share with the world, and now that things are ramping up again I’m pumped to be getting back on the live stage!
