Rising Vancouver pop artist Serena Sun, recently released her latest single “Breadcrumbs”, and we had the opportunity to chat with her about the inspiration behind it, her creative process and what’s next.
Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your latest single “Breadcrumbs”?
Serena: “Breadcrumbs” is about being in a relationship where the other party is not fully invested and you’re like, “ok buddy, it’s either you’re all in or I’m all out.” It’s about not settling for something that’s almost right.
Kat: What do you hope fans connect with on the track?
Serena: I hope people who are, or have been, in similar situations just enjoy listening to this song because I think it’s a fun track to vibe with and sing along to.
Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?
Serena: Definitely being self-critical. I am always trying my best to make music that I am proud to share with the world and as I get further in my career, the higher my expectations are for myself.
Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?
Serena: A recent highlight was playing a show where I met new fans in person; we got to talk about life, music, outfits—it was really nice getting to know them! Since starting out in music, I’ve learned that music is a beautiful form of art that bonds people; I feel lucky to get to play a part in this industry.
Kat: What’s next?
Serena: I have my debut EP coming out in early June this year and am so excited to share it! You can expect 5 tracks, various vibes and topics, but all self-reflective and intentional songwriting.
