We had the opportunity to chat with Kathryn about her role, what she hopes the audience connects with and what’s next.

Kat: You portray Mandy in the new Hallmark Movie “Feeling Butterflies”, how did you prepare for your role?

Kathryn: Mandy was a lot of fun to play! She has a big personality, a very colourful wardrobe and she will keep you laughing throughout the film. She is a lepidopterist – the scientific name for butterfly expert, so it was really cool to learn more about that. I did a lot of research to prepare.

Kat: Did you find any commonalities between yourself and Mandy?

Kathryn: Mandy is very different from me in many ways but I would say there are a few things we share in common. We are both very driven and hard working, and have a love for fun fashion.

Kat: What were some of your favorite scenes to shoot and why?

Kathryn: My favourite scene to shoot by far was the “Butterfly Off”! It is the opening scene of the movie and it is so funny to watch. It was also the most fun to shoot of all the scenes I did. It’s where the audience is first introduced to Mandy and we see her and Emily have a battle of the butterflies – duelling it out for their businesses. We laughed a lot while filming it.

Kat: What do you hope fans take away from the movie?

Kathryn: I really hope they walk away feeling good and uplifted, and also with a bit more knowledge about butterflies!

Kat: Is there a type of character that you’d like to portray, that you haven’t had the chance to yet?

Kathryn: There are so many roles I want to play! I need to break it down into categories haha. Genre wise I would love to be a part of a big action movie, a Scifi, a classic western and a period film. Some professions I would love to play are professional athlete, detective, soldier, superhero and musician. As for characters, I want to play them all and the more complicated they are the better.

Kat: What’s next?

Kathryn: I have some really cool projects coming out soon! Love in Yellowstone – directed by Marita Grabiak is coming out this year. We shot it in Vancouver and I got to ride horses in the movie and it was such a beautiful experience. I have been riding horses since I was seven years old so this was a dream come true for me! The Perfect Caregiver is also coming out this year – directed by the talented Michelle Ouellet and it will be so great as well. We shot in Northern Ontario inside a very beautiful Victorian mansion. It is a mystery/thriller that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats! I just finished filming my most crazy project to date called Ride or Die – directed by the incredible Stefan Brogren. I don’t even know how to describe this one but it is going to be AMAZING. I am currently on a plane to visit Paris and London for the first time. I received my UK Visa so I am going to go and explore and see what doors open for me! I am really looking forward to what is next, no matter what it is.
