Indie pop artist Alexandra Fresquez recently released two new singles “Ruins” with artist Jawny and “People Pleaser”. The song’s are a mix of pop and electronica with influences of artists such as Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande. Alexandra has recently had featured placements on TV shows such as MTV’s Ghosted and Ex on the Beach, and her music has reached over 3 million streams across all platforms as a DIY artist.
We had the opportunity to chat with Alexandra about her new music, her creative process, and what’s next.
Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your latest single “Ruins”?
Alexandra: Jawny and I wanted this song to be about relationships that we both had that were seemingly perfect, but that one or both people in that relationship completely ruined it.
For Jawny it involved cheating and lies. For me it was someone that had an addiction issue, that led to lying, that we tried to, but could not get past.
The song is about being in a relationship like this, and staying in it, when you know it’s not going to last, and staying in it is just hurting each other.
Kat: What do you hope fans take from the track?
Alexandra: I just really hope that people can in some way relate to this, and that it can help them with what they’re going through in some way. We are also going to be selling merchandise, some of the proceeds will go to a local charity, so we would like to also help in that way.
Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?
Alexandra: The most challenging part is sometimes completely putting yourself out there, exposing everything you’ve been through, but in a way it is also healing. I personally have a hard time opening up to others about what’s going on, and this is sometimes my best way of doing that.
Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?
Alexandra: The highlight for me is seeing how other people respond to it. I received a message the other day about my new song “People Pleaser”, and how someone related to it. They told me their history of being abused. They wanted me to know that they appreciated this message so much, and that they hope younger girls and teens, hear the message, and are able to have more self confidence, and not worry so much about pleasing everyone.
This message made me so happy because I fully did not realize that I was actually helping someone in that way. I have learned along the way that things like this can actually make a difference, and for me that just gives me so much joy being able to do something like that. If someone else can learn from my experiences, and not have to go through the same, that would be my greatest wish.
Kat: What’s next?
Alexandra: I am currently working on another single, as well as getting ready to release an EP with Jawny. I have two music videos coming out. One with Jawny for “Ruins”, and the other for “People Pleaser”. I also have one of my released singles that’s going to be on MTV’s “Ghosted” this month, so keep an eye out for that. Thank you so much for the opportunity to speak with you, and thank you to everyone who has been so supportive. <3 you all!
