Matt Lang Shares Thoughts On His Piano Version Of “Only A Woman”

Kat Harlton

Canadian country artist Matt Lang, recently released a piano version of his romantic single “Only A Women” via Jayward Artist Group  / The Orchard / Sony Music Canada, currently available on all streaming services. “Only A Women” is an easy to love heartwarming song that focuses on that love from a woman who will love you for everything you are.

We had the opportunity to chat with Matt about the piano version, how the pandemic has affected his songwriting, and what’s next.

Kat: Can you talk about why you decided to release a piano version of your romantic single “Only A Woman”?

Matt: We released the album in the middle of the pandemic, so when it came time to put out this single, we wanted to offer a new version in addition to what was on the album and something a little different for the fans to make it extra special.

Kat: Like most artists, I’m assuming you’ve been working on new material. Have you found that the current state of the world, and the pandemic have influenced your song writing in any way?

Matt: I am always working on new material and brainstorming ideas for new songs or how we can perform our songs live. In general, I write a lot more music than lyrics, so it has not affected my writing that much. It’s been challenging not being able to collaborate in person with co-writers I like to work with, but this isolated period has given me more time to listen to music and definitely makes me think about what’s important in life.

Kat: Your last single, ‘Getcha,’ was released this past May and has been featured on 10 playlists including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music; and has over 1.2M streams to date. It is continuously climbing up the radio charts, most recently entering the Top 5 at Canadian Country radio. How do you feel about the track’s success, and has it taught you anything?

Matt: I was happily surprised to see it do so well. This is my very first Top 5 and what surprised me the most is that this song has a very traditional, old school sound, which I love. But I wasn’t sure how it would be received. This is my favorite kind of music and it shows that when you do what you truly love and stay true to yourself, great things can happen.

Kat: If everything goes well, you have plans to perform in France and the UK in 2021. What can fans expect from your live performance?

Matt: I think it’s still too soon to be thinking about international touring at the moment, even though I would love to go and can’t wait to be playing music live again. Our shows are always a big party, so we gotta make sure everyone is safe before getting back on the road!

Kat: What’s next?

Matt: Working on new songs and trying to plan the next tour. I’ve also been renovating my house for the past couple of months, so I am going to finish up all that work!
