We had the opportunity to chat with Andrew about his new single, inspiration, career highlights and what’s next.

Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your single “Bad Bad”?

Andrew: Yeah for sure! I wanted to write a song that’s about enjoying the moment and just dancing! The theme of the song is pretty much a retro 70’s story about going to the disco to dance the night away, meeting a love interest for the very first time and having the time of your life.

Kat: To me, this track has a bit of an 80’s inspired sound to it. Can you talk about the sound direction, and the vibe you were going for?

Andrew: When I started making this album, I wanted to get out of my comfort zone so I listened to as many different records as I possibly could in many different genres, and I discovered just how much I love Disco & Funk music. So, with “Bad Bad” and the rest of the tracks on the album, I really wanted to showcase my appreciation for those genres! I wanted to go for a vibe that makes you want to get off your feet and dance, so you’ll notice some flavours of disco and funk and even some overtones of rock. It’s Groove-Pop!

Kat: The past year saw you performing all over the world in South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Sweden, The United States, and Canada. You’ve also shared the stage with prominent artists, including Shawn Mendes, Chromeo, Tyler Shaw, Lauv, and New City. What has been a highlight for you? And what have you learned along the way?

Andrew: The past year has been amazing. I’m so thankful that I got to visit so many countries and share my music. I think one of the biggest highlights for me was having the opportunity to perform in South Korea & Japan and actually meet some of my fans. It’s one thing to get to know your fans through the screen on your phone, but to actually meet them in person is really special. One of the things that I took away from all of this is that I think as artists, there’s a certain pressure put on you to constantly chase numbers… but that’s not what this business should be about. For me, it’s about creating relationships, because we’re all real people, and the best thing is making connections with people. When you get to travel to all these places around the world to perform and meet the fans, those real people, the ones that make all of this possible, it puts it all into perspective. I’m so grateful to every single fan that has listened to my songs. Those special fans that take time out of their lives to send me messages and help promote the music. It inspires me to work even harder to make sure I get to one day meet them in person.

Kat: What’s next?

Andrew: With the current state of the world, things are pretty unpredictable but with that being said; you can bet that I’ll be working on creating some visuals to release alongside the album. On the flip side, in the fall if things return to normal, we’ll be heading back to Asia to tour and bring the songs on the new album to life.
