This past Friday evening we had the opportunity to attend our first ever Pancakes & Booze Art Show at Toronto’s Opera House. Founded in 2009, the show featured local artists, music, body painting, fashion and let’s not forget the yummy pancakes!

According to their website, Pancakes & Booze now holds exhibits in multiple cities across North America, listing LA, New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver, Toronto, Seattle, Washington DC, Nashville, Portland, Vancouver, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Dallas, Austin, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, San Diego and Phoenix. So if you have an opportunity to become involved in your city, it is encouraged that you contact them.

Hailed as Toronto’s largest underground art show, we were impressed with the scale.  Art booths filled the entire main floor while displaying various kinds of art which included: mixed media, watercolor, photography and sculpture (just to name a few). I personally had the opportunity to be introduced to quite a few artists and was particularly fond of the work created by Boloebi Charles Okah, Leyland Adams and Gino Art. (all of which you should check out)

In the spirit of Halloween, there was also a Zombie fashion show, which featured models covered in special effects makeup, who then walked through the crowd taunting and teasing guests. For this part of the show, I sat upstairs in the balcony enjoying the free pancake bar while getting the perfect bird’s eye view of the event.

The Pancakes & Booze Art Show is to be commended for giving emerging artists a fun and energized environment to display and sell their work. We had a great time and encourage everyone to support their local art scene.
