Countrycore Records recently announced the second annual Sound of Remembrance country music concert and charitable event being held on November 9, 2024. This year’s event will be held at the esteemed National Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, ON, serving as a poignant reminder of our nation’s rich history.

Promising to be an evening of sensational entertainment, inspiring stories and soul-stirring performances from a stellar lineup of artists, the night will be hosted by Leo Stakos, known as the vibrant host of the national television series “Fish TV”, and headlined by multiple award-winning country artist George Canyon. Additional performances include Collingwood’s “The Singing Soldier” and Founder of Countrycore Graham Trude and Nova Scotia’s Jason Price.

Following the overwhelming success of the inaugural event in 2023, which proudly supported the Military Family Resources Centre, Countrycore Records is hoping to deliver another extraordinary evening and leave a lasting impact on attendees. The event will serve as a humble tribute to those who have sacrificed everything for us to be here today, dedicating their lives to serving our nation.

All proceeds from the event will be directed to support Soldier On Canada, a Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group (CAFTG) program that helps retired members to overcome mental health and physical illness or injury through sport and physical activity.

Countrycore Records extends its gratitude to the 2024 event sponsors: Spartan Wellness Canada, Fish TV, Mad Hatter Industries and Your Daily Fix Coffee.

I had the opportunity to chat with Countrycore Records Founder Graham Trude about what the event means to him, what attendees can expect and more.

Kat: Countrycore Records has announced the second annual Sound of Remembrance country music concert and charitable event. Can you please introduce yourself and tell us what this event means to you?

Graham: My name is Graham Trude. I’m an Afghanistan veteran and former first responder from Collingwood, Ontario. I’ve experienced first-hand the challenges faced by our military and emergency services personnel, both during and after their service. Today, I channel those experiences into my work as a songwriter, aiming to create music that resonates with those who’ve walked a similar path.

The Sound of Remembrance is more than just an event to me—it’s a way to honour the sacrifices made by veterans, first responders, and their families. It’s an opportunity to come together, share our stories, and support each other through music and community. This event also serves as a platform to raise funds for Soldier On, helping those who have served to recover and rebuild their lives. It’s a reminder that we’re not alone and that our service and sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Kat: The second annual Sound of Remembrance event follows the overwhelming success of the inaugural event in 2023, which proudly supported the Military Family Resources Centre. What inspired the creation of this event and what impact did it have on attendees?

Graham: The idea for the Sound of Remembrance came from a desire to create a space where veterans, first responders, and their families could come together and feel seen, heard, and supported. I wanted to use music as a way to bridge the gap between our experiences and the broader community, to help others understand the struggles and sacrifices that often go unnoticed. The response to the first event was incredible. Many attendees shared that it was the first time they felt truly understood and connected to others who have been through similar challenges. It brought a sense of healing and camaraderie, reminding everyone that they’re not alone in their journey. Seeing the impact it had on people’s lives has only reinforced the importance of continuing this event every year.

Kat: What can attendees expect to experience at the event and what do you hope they will take away from the experience this year?

Graham: Attendees can expect an evening filled with powerful music, storytelling, and a strong sense of community. We’ve curated a lineup of talented artists, many of whom have their own connections to the military and first responder communities, so the performances are deeply personal and authentic. It’s not just about the music—it’s about creating a space where people can come together to reflect, honour, and support one another.

I hope everyone who attends walks away feeling a sense of connection and understanding Whether they’re veterans, first responders, family members, or supporters, I want them to feel that their stories and sacrifices are acknowledged and appreciated. I also hope they take away a renewed sense of hope and strength, knowing that they’re part of a community that stands together, supports each other, and continues to honour the legacy of those who serve. And, of course, I hope they leave inspired to support organizations like Soldier On, which make a real difference in the lives of our service members and their families.

Kat: The event will be held at the esteemed National Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, ON. Why did you choose this location?

Graham: The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa is a place that holds profound historical and emotional significance. It’s not just a building; it’s a space that honours the legacy and sacrifices of those who have served our country. Hosting the Sound of Remembrance here felt like a natural choice because it provides a powerful backdrop that resonates deeply with veterans, first responders, and their families.

Being in the nation’s capital, the museum also symbolizes the connection between our service and the broader Canadian community. It serves as a reminder that the freedoms we enjoy come at a cost, and it’s a place where we can come together to reflect on that. The museum’s mission to preserve and share our military history aligns perfectly with the goals of this event—to remember, to honour, and to support those who have given so much.

Kat: All proceeds from the event will be directed to support Soldier On Canada, a Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group (CAFTG) program. Can you tell us more about this program and why you chose them to donate the funds raised to?

Graham: Soldier On Canada is a national charity that supports veterans and serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces who are living with illness or injury. They provide opportunities for these individuals to participate in physical activities, sports, and community programs that promote recovery and well-being. What I love about Soldier On is their focus on helping people regain a sense of purpose and confidence through physical and mental rehabilitation.

I chose Soldier On because their mission aligns with my own passion for supporting the military community. They understand the unique challenges that veterans and their families face, and they provide practical, hands-on support that makes a real difference in people’s lives. The funds raised from the Sound of Remembrance go directly towards helping these men and women rebuild their lives, reconnect with their communities, and find hope and strength in their recovery journey. It’s an honour to support an organization that is doing such impactful work.
