Nashville based country artist Teigen Gayse, released her heartfelt single “Better Mistake” earlier this year. Following her highest charting radio single to date (“Sleeping With Her”), and being crowned the BCCMA Female Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, Teigen has had a big year filled with new music and a stacked festival season.
I had the opportunity to chat with Teigen about her musical journey, the inspiration behind ‘Better Mistake’ and more.
Kat: Can you share a little about the inspiration behind your single “Better Mistake”?
Teigen: I had the title in my phone for some time and when I got into the room with Phil and Dwave, they loved it. The inspiration was based off the title and we created a love story that people could relate to. It’s a song about falling for someone you least expected to fall for.
Kat: What do you hope fans take from the track?
Teigen: I hope that it gives people some hope that you never know what can happen. It takes one moment for you to fall in love with someone.
Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?
Teigen: Finding a melody that grabs people. I’m a huge melody girl so the melody has to be locked in for me
Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?
Teigen: Huge career highlight would have to be my nomination for the CCMA’s for Breakthrough Artist. I’ve dreamed of the moment. And of course writing with Chad Kroeger for my single “If You Show Me Yours”.
Kat: What’s next?
Teigen: I still have some shows left for the year, the CCMA Awards in Edmonton, and writing for the record!!!
