Canadian country artist Ryan Langdon recently released his new single “Whiskey Bottle” via Hidden Pony Records on all streaming platforms.

Ryan is known for his energetic anthems like “Lit In The Sticks” and “Crossfaded” and showcases another side of his musical and personal artistry with his new single “Whiskey Bottle”. Co-written with Jim Witter and Andrew Martino (Down with Webster), this emotional ballad diverges from your typical “sad country song” that romanticizes the effects and abuse of alcohol. While creating this single, Ryan and his co-writers strived for an honest approach that sheds light on the harsh reality that drowning your sorrow in liquor only intensifies heartbreak and causes more problems.

Ryan’s impressive track record, including four Top 40 Canadian Country hits and a nomination for the Country Music Association of Ontario (CMAO) Rising Star award in 2019 marks this single as a new chapter in both Ryan’s career and the country music scene.

Collaborating with a diverse range of talents such as Dave Thompson (Lady A, Lights), Patricia Conroy (Meghan Patrick, Rivertown Saints), Jim Witter (Steve Wariner), Jesse Slack (Josh Setterfield, Robyn Ottolini), Steve Molella (Finger Eleven, New Friends), and Andrew “Marty” Martino (Down With Webster, Theo Tams), Ryan Langdon has been encouraged to explore his musical versatility beyond his rock-country roots. His upcoming releases will blend influences from pop and hip-hop while staying true to his country origins, showcasing a fusion of genres without constraints. Ryan has also recently released a country-rock version of Blackstreet and Dr.Dre’s famous “No Diggity” in May 2024. With banging country riffs and Ryan’s traditional deep country voice, this song is sure to gain viral status.

I had the opportunity to chat with Ryan about his musical journey, his new single, what he’s learned along the way and what’s next.

Kat: Can you share with us a bit about your musical journey so far?

Ryan: My musical journey began when I was just 10 years old. As a child, I always craved attention and wanted to stand out. So, I gathered the courage to perform at my elementary school talent show, in front of an audience of over 500 kids. That experience ignited a passion within me that I couldn’t ignore.

In high school, I picked up the acoustic guitar and honed my skills. Eventually, I started performing gigs professionally throughout the city when I turned 19. The joy of connecting with audiences through music became my driving force.

In 2018, I had the incredible opportunity to sign with Slaight Music, and ever since then, I have been dedicated to releasing my own music. It’s been an incredible journey of growth, self-expression, and artistic exploration. I am grateful for the support and the platform to share my music with the world.

Kat: Can you share the inspiration behind your new single “Whiskey Bottle”?

Ryan: The inspiration behind “Whiskey Bottle” stems from reflecting on past experiences and remembering the difficult relationships of the past. I’m happily married now, but before I met my wife, finding love was often challenging and usually ended in heartbreak. We wanted to write something that deviates from the typical country song that promotes alcohol as a remedy for heartbreak. In reality, it makes things more difficult, clouding your judgment and preventing you from thinking clearly.

Kat: What do you hope fans take away from the track?

Ryan: I hope that fans take away from “Whiskey Bottle” the realization that alcohol is not a true solution for heartbreak. While the initial instinct may be to drown one’s sorrows and seek temporary relief through a night of indulgence, it often leads to a deeper emotional struggle. Instead, the song emphasizes the importance of self-improvement as the most effective way to overcome heartbreak. By focusing on personal growth and self-care, one can truly heal and move forward.

Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far?

Ryan: One of my biggest career highlights so far is the success of my debut EP “Lit In The Sticks.” It has received over 7 million streams independently. This accomplishment is incredibly cool to me and I’m so grateful for the support.

Kat: What have you learned along the way that you would like to share with other aspiring artists and creators?

Ryan: I’ve learned that The music industry is a grind and It requires a love for the process because it can be tough. Creating music takes time and patience. You can’t just do it for the clout and fame. Because that may never happen.

Kat: What else can fans expect from you for the balance of 2024?

Ryan: I am currently working releasing my first full length album. It’s been a few years in the making now, but we are very close to finishing that and checking off another box on the milestone checklist.
