Teenage Singer-Songwriter Kyra Daniel Talks New Single “Words Means Something” + More

Kat Harlton

Teenage singer-songwriter Kyra Daniel, released her mature new single “Words Mean Something” on September 23rd via Jayward Artist Group on all streaming platforms.

It is an empowering and poignant track that is reminiscent of 90’s Grammy award winning group TLC and contains a deeper dialogue, reminding listeners that their voices matter. The song was one of Kyra’s first co-writes with producer Evan Cline (Teddy Swims, Stephanie Owens) and was born from a place of being teased in school for looking different and pursuing her dreams at a young age.

Kingston native Kyra Daniel is already proving to be a force to be reckoned with at only 13 years old. Since becoming a member of Mini Pop Kids in 2020, Kyra has gained confidence and an incredible stage presence after being given countless opportunities to perform live for kids and parents across Canada and the USA with the MPK troop.

Kyra’s mature voice has started to catch the attention of notable people in the music industry such as Mickey Guyton, Brittany Spencer, Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men, and Nashville Music Exec, LeAnn Phelan. As a result, LeAnn connected Kyra with producer/UMPG songwriter Evan Cline which led to a trip to Nashville for Kyra to record her first EP.

This year, Kyra was added to Jayward Artist Group’s talented roster and released her debut single “Like It’s Summer” in June. Now, she is ready to show the world her heart and a very personal experience as she prepares to release her new single just in time for back to school.

I had the opportunity to chat with Kyra about her new single, songwriting and what to expect for the rest of 2022.

Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your new single “Words Mean Something”?

Kyra: My inspiration behind ‘Words Mean Something’ was through personal experiences I’ve faced at school. I think that it’s so important for people to speak up about issues, or anything on their mind rather than keeping it inside. I guess what I’m trying to say is your voice matters, and you’re not alone.

Kat: What do you hope fans take from the new single?

Kyra: I hope that people get inspired from this song, and realize how important they are. Everyone has a purpose, and it’s your voice that can change the world. Also just hope they love the melody!

Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?

Kyra: I think coming up with relatable, fun, and inspirational songs can be challenging. Deciding on a topic to write about, coming up with a catchy melody and beat, it can be very fun but also hard because I’m pretty new at it. I absolutely love writing my own music, and I truly hope I can inspire others through what I do best.

Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?

Kyra: Definitely getting signed to a record label, and releasing my first single at 12 years old was the most surreal thing to me. I’ve been dreaming of becoming a singer for as long as I can remember, and the fact that I have an amazing team behind me helping me to follow my dreams just means the world.

Kat: What can we expect from you for the balance of 2022?

Kyra: For the remainder of 2022, you can expect more original content, more upcoming songs, and hopefully some music videos! I can’t wait for you all to see what I have in store!
