Patrick Kordyback From Stereos Talks New Single “Look Good”

Kat Harlton

It has no doubt been awhile since you’ve heard new music from JUNO Award nominated and multi-Platinum, Edmonton, AB based pop band, Stereos.

Stereos first gained notoriety after appearing on the MuchMusic original series, disBAND. Following the release of their self-titled, debut album their popularity exploded. On the strength of singles like ‘Summer Girl’ (3XPlatinum) ‘Throw Ya Hands Up’ (2XPlatinum) and ‘Turn It Up’ (Platinum), the band began touring relentlessly and ultimately racked up JUNO Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Pop Album in 2010.

The MuchMusic fan favorites just released their new single ‘Look Good‘ via all streaming platforms. Released 12 years after the band’s first single Summer Girl‘, the band was inspired by the pandemic and their personal lives which they turned into an upbeat pop song that will be the anthem for summer 2021.

We had the opportunity to chat with Lead Vocalist Patrick Kordyback about their new single, career highlights, what the band hopes to accomplish in 2021.

Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your latest single “Look Good”?

Patrick: “Look Good” is all about the importance of self-love despite difficult circumstances. The writing of this song took place during a pretty tough time for me personally, and I think it’s a powerful message that a lot of people will be able to relate to on their own personal level after the year we’ve all just had.

Kat: What do you hope fans take from the track?

Patrick: Honestly my only goal is that people connect with the song in a positive way, no matter how that looks for them. Whether it be a connection to the lyrics or just loving the upbeat vibe, this song is all about making people feel good, plain and simple.

Kat: What do you hope to accomplish in your career in 2021?

Patrick: I want to just fill my life and the life of my bandmates with music again. It’s something so important to all of us, and such an incredible creative outlet. It’s a massive understatement to say we’ve missed it, so I know we’re all looking forward to every part of this, whether it’s the live show, writing more, recording more, just all of it.

Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?

Patrick: For me personally, it’s been upping my lyrical game. Coming up with vocal melodies and chord progressions has always come very naturally to me, but trying to give the lyrics a little bit more substance was something I wanted to do this time around, and although that was a challenge, I’m very happy with the result.

Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?

Patrick: Wow, that’s a tough one to pinpoint! We’ve honestly had so many amazing experiences along the way, from being on the Disband reality show, to playing arena tours which was all way beyond what we ever imagined when we started this band in a basement. But I’ll go with something recent because I think it’s a testament to what we’ve been able to do with Stereos- and that’s the two sold out reunion shows last year in Toronto and Edmonton. To essentially disappear for eight years and then come back to sell out shows was such a humbling, amazing experience, and it really did spark this new path we’re on.

Kat: What’s next?

Patrick: This Summer is going to be all about reengaging our fanbase and connecting with new fans through our new songs! So, I know we will be putting out a few songs as a lead up to the album this fall, and we’re so eager to get back out there and perform live again as soon as we’re able!
