Cross Parallel Talk Latest Single “Better With Time”

Kat Harlton

British Columbia-based duo Cross Parallel, recently released their latest single “Better With Time” via Mussell Records and all streaming platforms. Featuring the duo’s unique sound and relatable lyrics, the new single is an easy-going tune about the kind of relationships that just get better with time, not to mention the perfect, driving with the top down kind of tune we all love in the summer!

Cross Parallel is composed of 2015 CCMA Spotlight artist and Ray McAuley Horizon Award-winner Danielle Marie, and Jordan Pritchett, guitarist of the Juno nominated, platinum-selling band, Faber Drive. After meeting at a song-write in 2015, and pursuing their music careers as individual artists, the couple decided to merge together to form Cross Parallel and haven’t looked back since.

We had the opportunity to chat with Danielle and Jordan from Cross Parallel about their latest single, what they hope fans connect with and what’s next.

Kat: Can you talk about the inspiration behind your latest single?

Cross Parallel: First of all, thanks so much for having us on here to chat! “Better With Time” is kind of an anthem to our relationship. It’s about how we’ve grown as individuals and a couple over the 5 years we’ve had together. We hope that other couples can relate to that feeling and that it can be their anthem too! Getting engaged in December 2020 inspired us releasing it as the lead track to our upcoming EP!

Kat: What do you hope fans take from the track?

Cross Parallel: Our hope is that it makes other couples think of their own love story and that it’s something they can add to their playlists and break into a fun dance whenever it comes on. Also, that they dig the retro spin we put on it!

Kat: What do you find is the most challenging part of your creative process?

Cross Parallel: Good question! Though we love the whole creative process, it does have its challenges. When you write a song you always try to picture what it will sound like when it’s all said and done, and as producers the most challenging part is making sure we nail it when it comes to the overall feel and vibe of the song. Coming up with that direction in your head before tackling production can be the most tedious process we’d say.

Kat: What has been a career highlight for you so far? What have you learned along the way?

Cross Parallel: Since we’ve both had separate careers before forming Cross Parallel, we’ll answer individually. But together, it would probably be performing on the BCCMA awards show. It’s always a special feeling getting to perform at them and it probably stands out most in our time together so far.

For me (Danielle), I would say my career highlight was getting to play the CCMA legends show back in 2015 alongside so many incredible Canadian musicians that I look up to. It really gave me a taste of what my future could look like if I keep at it and never give up. It was so cool getting to hang with everyone backstage too and listen to all of the stories.

For me (Jordan), I would have to say performing on City TV’s New Years bash with Faber Drive in Nathan Phillips Square. That was an unforgettable performance and will always stand out as one of my favourite.

We’re constantly learning in this business, but one of the lessons that sticks out is to stay consistent and stay true to yourself and your art. Enjoy what you do so much that it doesn’t feel like work! But still work hard haha ;)

Kat: What’s next?

Cross Parallel: Well, we have a few shows coming in for this summer, so we’re gearing up for those! Also, will have another single out before the end of the year. And an EP!! Should have that coming towards the end of the year or beginning of 2022!
