Brooklyn-born country star Jessica Lynn brings everyone into the holiday season with her new single, “It’s Just Not Christmas”. The stirring holiday track describes what many may face this holiday season as the pandemic continues to cause restrictions on social gatherings.

We had a chat with Jessica Lynn about her new holiday single and favorite Christmas memories.

Kat: Can you share some of the inspiration behind why you decided to record “It’s Just Not Christmas”?

Jessica: “It’s Just Not Christmas” is a song I wrote for my sister. The holidays can be extremely difficult when you are missing someone. I actually wrote the song last year but it was too late into the season to release it so I anxiously awaited this Christmas and little did I know, due to the pandemic, how relevant the song and story would become, sadly, for so many people.

Kat: Do you have a favorite holiday or Christmas memory?

Jessica: I have very vivid memories of baking and decorating Christmas cookies with my family when I was a kid. I remember looking forward to it so much every year and I can still smell what the house smelled like while they were baking when I think about it. We also still have the molds we used!

Kat: What was your favorite gift you received as a kid?

Jessica: Getting my heart-shaped electric guitar from my parents was very special. I remember being SO excited opening the box and practicing endless hours on it. I wound up using it in my very first television special that kicked off my whole career. It is very sentimental!

Kat: Favorite holiday movie?

Jessica: Home Alone! For me, that movie never gets old and it really makes me laugh!

Kat: Favorite holiday treat?

Jessica: I don’t even know what they are called but ever since I can remember, my grandmother had these graham cracker, chocolate covered Christmas tree cookies with little white round sprinkles on them at her house every year. I always associate the feelings of Christmas with seeing those cookies. I’m sure they are probably an Italian specialty cookie. They are so delicious.
