About The Movie:
In the aftermath of a hurricane that’s destroyed her home, and most of her home town, a young teacher reconnects with a childhood crush to rebuild her home and her community.
We had the opportunity to catch up with star Madeline Leon and discuss her role, natural disasters and her favorite scene.
Kat: Was there anything about your role that was particularly challenging?
Madeline: I think playing a woman who is jaded and struggling but also likeable as our heroine was a challenge. I think at the end of the day, I wanted to make her real. Hopefully we made it work!
Kat: What was your favorite scene to shoot and why?
Madeline: My favourite scene to shoot was a flashback scene where Lauren and Collin have a run-in at the fair. Lauren experiences a sudden change of emotion. We start the scene one way, and finish in a completely different direction which makes for fun acting. There was a lot of genuine laughter during this scene!
Kat: “After The Storm” deals with the aftermath of a Hurricane- have you ever had to deal with a natural disaster?
Madeline: I’ve never experienced any natural disasters. I feel so fortunate to be able to say that. However, I did travel to New Orleans with my choir to sing in schools after Hurricane Katrina. This trip was a small glimpse into the devastation that these people endured. It’s heartbreaking.
Kat: What do you hope fans take away from the movie?
Madeline: I hope fans can relate to the story in some way! Both Lauren and Colin are flawed human beings, and throughout the movie we see them come to terms with some of these flaws. I think everyone can relate to that. On a lighter note, I hope people enjoy the love story 😄
Kat: Do you have any advice for those getting started in the entertainment industry?
Madeline: My advice is to keep your life full in many areas outside of the industry because the work comes in waves. If you learn to ride those waves and appreciate the work while you have it, then you’ll be golden! I’d also recommend creating your own projects! It’s fun and it gives you a chance to showcase your strengths on your terms.
