Calgary based, electro, R&B/pop artist Ruben Young performed a private showcase at the Rivoli in Toronto last night.
Young released his debut single “Bad Habits” earlier this year. Produced by Nova Scotia’s JUNO Award winning hip-hop legend Classified, “Bad Habits” showcases the Calgary native’s soulful vibe and unique raspy vocals, with a hint of R&B. Complex Magazine named “Bad Habits” one of the “Best Canadian Songs This Year”.
Young is also coming off of a huge summer on stage; opening for The Chainsmokers, Akon and Classified.Young has also reached over 1 million streams (cross platform) from his debut and sophomore releases, “Take Her Down” and “Running For You”. Together, the independent singles have reached #13 on the Spotify Canada Viral 50, #8 on the Hype Machine, #4 on the iTunes Canada Electronic Chart and #29 on the iTunes Canada Pop Chart.
Young has also most recently been nominated in two categories for Calgary’s YYC Awards including Male Artist of the Year and Pop Recording of the Year.
Over the past few years, Young has been recognized as a young innovator in the Canadian arts. Having been the founder of Calgary’s “50 Days YYC” music festival – supporting emerging artists, and the community, to earning a University Bachelor of Commerce degree along the way, Young has proven to be a powerhouse.
