Toronto Outdoor Picture Show Closes 2017 Season With Free Live-Score Production

Toronto Outdoor Picture Show (TOPS) will screen a final encore presentation of the silent comedy classic THE FRESHMAN – a film rarely screened in Toronto – with an original live score by Toronto musicians The Holy Gasp!

THE FRESHMAN is the story of the deceptively bookish Harold Lamb (legendary silent comedian Harold Lloyd), as he heads to college and competes to be the most popular and loveable student on campus in aseries of increasingly hilarious and inventive slapstick routines.

The Holy Gasp bandleader and co-composer Benjamin Hackman says, “Never before have two people found so many uses for a slide whistle. We laughed a whole lot throughout the writing of this score, making every effort to punctuate all the stumbles, tumbles, and wipeouts. We hope the musical experience enhances the comedy of this brilliant classic, and provokes new laughter for old jokes.”
